Emersyn was born prematurely at just 4 pounds, 15 ounces. By the grace of God, she didn’t have to go to the NICU — but she has overcome more in her little life than most ever will. From 6 months to 1 year old she had a feeding tube. She is extremely nearsighted with nystagmus and astigmatism and wears the cutest little glasses you’ve ever seen. Since she turned one, she has been in speech, feeding, occupational, and physical therapy. Now, almost three years old, she’s rocking corrective leg braces like the strong girl she is.

I’ve taken her to so many play places and watched her struggle. I’ve watched her try to keep up. I’ve watched other kids not understand. And as her mom… it broke me.

So I started creating sensory activities at home — not just for her, but for her older brother too — to give them a sense of normalcy, inclusion, and confidence. One day I looked at my fiancé and said, “What if I opened a place that did activities like this? Do you think it would help other families?” Without hesitation he said, “Absolutely. I believe in you.”

And that was it.

A mother’s love will move mountains. I felt it in my spirit that this was bigger than me.

Emersyn’s Corner was created to be a safe, inclusive, welcoming space where children of ALL abilities can play, explore, and grow together. A place where no child feels behind. A place where parents don’t have to explain their child. A place where differences are embraced.

A sensory play studio isn’t just about bins and activities — it’s about development. It supports fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social interaction, emotional regulation, creativity, and confidence through hands-on, engaging play.

This is more than a business. This is a mama-owned dream built on faith, resilience, and love. Every detail inside these walls was created with intention — because I know what it feels like to need a space like this.

If you walk through our doors, just know… you belong here.

Why Is Sensory Play Important?

Fosters Brain Development

Sensory play helps build strong neural connections in the brain. When children explore textures, sounds, smells, and movement, their brains are actively processing information. These repeated sensory experiences strengthen pathways that support learning, memory, and problem-solving later on.

Builds Fine & Gross Motor Skills

Scooping rice, squeezing playdough, pouring water, or climbing soft play structures all strengthen muscles and coordination.

  • Fine motor skills (small hand movements) prepare children for writing, buttoning clothes, and feeding themselves.
  • Gross motor skills (large body movements) improve balance, coordination, and overall physical confidence.

Encourages Language Development

As children explore, they naturally begin describing what they feel, see, and hear:

  • “It’s squishy!”
  • “It’s cold!”
  • “It’s loud!”

This builds vocabulary and helps children connect words to real-life experiences. Sensory play also encourages conversation between caregivers and children, strengthening communication skills.

Encourages Creativity & Independent Play

Open-ended sensory play has no “right” or “wrong” way to explore. This boosts imagination and confidence. Children learn to experiment, make choices, and think independently — skills that build resilience and problem-solving abilities.
